Mind, Body, Fitness

Hello friends,

The New Year, 2013, is almost here. Wow! It came fast, right?
Anyhow, we usually think to ourselves, "what new year's resolution can set for myself & stick with it?"
This passed year has been a lil iffy trying to deal with school, then realized the ignorance of certain professors & the kindness of others. In my grad program, we are given choices of classes/courses to fulfill as prerequisites, i.e. if this quarter I can't take/fulfill this certain class/course then next quarter I may be able to take another class/course.
This quarter, I registered with this certain professor who is the only one teaching a course I need to graduate, I repeat, for this quarter only, but I can take another course that can fill that same requirement for the upcoming quarters. I've had this professor in another class/course previously & unfortunately she was very ignorant to the point where I didn't feel comfortable. So I think to myself, "why am I going to put myself thru that again?"
So my New Year's resolution is to not deal with dickheads anymore. I already get paid to deal with them, vaguely now, in my career, & I mean vaguely. So no need to deal with any dickhead professor if it's not necessary. No Dealing with dickheads this year :-).
So this year, I am going to drop her class for winter quarter & start the year with positive energy through focusing on my health physically, emotionally, mentally & spiritually.
I'm already focused on it, so I guess what I'm saying is that I am going to continue it & not deal with ignorant professors/people (for free at least), I'm gonna get fit, focus on my health on all aspects, continue teaching fitness - movement & voice for actors - flamenco - & simply stay on the positive path. We always have stumbles here & there, but if I can prevent myself from dealing with a dickhead for 9 weeks (a quarter), then great. My New Year's Resolution will be in action.
New Year's resolution:
Avoiding negative people like that professor if I can help it.
Continue teaching fitness which I will use as a continuance in getting fit.
Stay positive.
Eat healthier than ever.
Continue learning to sing new Flamenco songs as well as continue teaching flamenco dance.
And pass my national certification Personal Trainer test (one I have to update every two years).
Voila.... Case closed.
What's your New Year's resolution for 2013?

Never misses :-), but i luv it..

A lot of people ask me, "Rocio, you do so many things. When are you going to settle down?"
For the average person, my lifestyle seems a bit chaotic or all over the place, it seems. But in order for me to do the things i do in this life-time, i have no choice but to have it together, otherwise it won't work. And as for settling down, well it depends what you mean when you say settling down.
Do you mean just doing one thing or getting married & settling down.
Not sure what was meant, but just in case, i have 2answers: if you meant settling down doing one thing, as long as i can handle it & am not affecting the livelihoods of anyone, i will continue to live as i desire because i love what i do. If you meant settling down with family? Well, i guess if the time ever comes, i'll just have to see what can be compromised right there & then as long as everyone is happy. but in the meantime, since i am living on my own terms because it's not affecting anybody's livelihood but my own, i'll continue doing my so many things :-). And if my lifestyle is affecting someone else who i don't have any ties to, then that person must be really bored with their life & has nothing better to do than to worry about someone else's life but his/her own.
Anyhow, while in Vegas, i was able to kill two birds with 1 stone. Was able to stay on the cirque list, so i actually passed the physical test. I cant believe it 'cause some of the stuff i did i hadnt done in a while. Meanwhile at the same time, a cirque colleague & i were renewing our pilates certification. Done! Before leaving Vegas a cirque colleague & i were hanging up & down on the poles trapeze & aerial style & our trainer took a pictures with us like that. That was fun & can't wait to see that picture. Ha! I must be out of my mind, but i wouldn't have it any other way. Anyhow, Cant wait to get home to my kitty. She must think i abandoned her.
Keep smiling :-)

I'm in Vegas strong..

I'm Vegas, not for a good time, but to take a physical test with my ole job to stay on the emergency list. Anyhow, they said I did great in most of the tests like the jumps, the balancing with eyes closed, closed tight grip, & other power moving exercises. The dancing, pilates, & other things i've done has helped me, but the most that has helped me was training with someone named Adrian Pietrariu. He's an excellent trainer and has helped me from getting strong to maintaining strength in this body. Most of the injuries I have have been acquired through out the years, but I have been training with from twice to now once a week, because the rest of the days I take his bootcamp class which is a butt kicker. This class isn't only for athletes of dance or of any sports, this class is for anyone interested in improving any physical part of themselves. You all should give it a try. It's fun, it's work, & you get to meet great people. The place is called West Coast Boot Camp in La Cañada California. I feel much stronger & happy that I was able to pass most of my physical tests for this crazy circus.

Las Soldaderas play

Hi guys,

Besides the Flamenco World I live and La Bestia band I sing for, at the moment I am in a play called Las Soldaderas (The Female Soldiers) directed by Ruben Amavizca.

It's a play that takes place in the Mexican Revolution era (during Emiliano Zapata and Carranza. Read your Mexican history if you're not familiar). Anyhow, I hope you can all come support us in this play. I will be rotating the same role with another actor, so here are the dates I will be in this play: 2012 May 26th & 27th then again in June 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 16th (Fridays & Saturdays 8pm, Sundays 6pm). The play is in Spanish, however in the Fall of 2012 they will be in English. I'm fortunate to be bilingual.

Here is the link for more information.
LAS SOLDADERAS PLAY, CLICK HERE.

Also, at the moment I am freelancing a class which I'm teaching. It's exciting to me. As soon as I finished the cycle for adult's Movement & Voice for Actors at TVI Actor's Studio in Sherman Oaks, right away I landed this cycled class to teach which is Movement-Voice & Dance for Youth Actors CASA0101 in the neighborhood I was raised in, Boyle Heights.

This course is designed to support and enhance your work as a performer. It includes the continued study of body anatomy and how the position of the spine affects the voice (negatively and positively), phonetic (warm-ups & exercises), voice & body connection, verse and scansion, and vocal production and movement.

By the end of the class cycle you should be able to:

Have an intellectual and physical understanding of basic vocal/movement technique for safe and effective work on stage/screen. Understand a repertoire of physical/vocal exercises for daily use in the development of relaxed and efficient breathing patterns and extended vocal range of pitch, pace, and volume. Get ready!

Monologue:

Bring a monologue in which you feel you would like to expand on as well as make it come alive. WE WILL APPLY THE TECHNIQUES IN CLASS TOWARD YOUR MONOLOGUE.

POLICIES

Punctual attendance and active participation in ALL classes is MANDATORY. Due to the collaborative nature of this class it is necessary that you attend all class meetings and that you are on time.

This is a movement class, not a theory (lecture) class or an observation (no participation) class! Voice and movement are physical activities that require being comfortable with yourself and with others. It requires 100% participation. You must be willing to be vulnerable physically and emotionally in a room of your peers. Due to the non-traditional nature of some of the physical and vocal exercises done in class it’s important to know that disrespect on any level directed at anyone will not be tolerated. Respect your peers; be mature; be professional.

Always wear comfortable clothing that allows full range of motion in the body. No jeans. You will work barefoot/socks sometimes. Bring a yoga mat, just in case.

Physical contact:
It will sometimes be necessary for physical contact of a non-traditional nature between instructor and student, or between students. Potential areas of contact include the head, neck, face, shoulders, arms, mid-torso, hips, legs, and feet. Such contact will be made with only the utmost respect for the student. If physical contact is a conflicting issue or you do not wish to have physical contact, you must notify the instructor at the first day of the course.

Use of electronic devices:
Please be professional and respect your peers and the instructor by turning off all mobile phones, pagers, etc. All mobile phones, pagers, etc. shall be turned off before each class begins, and turned off after any use during any breaks.
